Adult Jam Sqaud
How does it work?
We want you to enjoy playing with us, but we understand that you might decide it's not for you.
That's why we offer a one-month trial at a discounted rate of $50 for four weeks to give you enough time to really see what we're about. That way, you can try us out without breaking the bank.

Expectations once you join
Unless you are one of those music legends who can sight read perfectly, it works best if everyone aims to schedule in at least half an hour practice per week between sessions (or more!). We find we have much more fun and make a lot more progress if everyone puts in a little bit of time through the week to make sure they are on top of their parts.

Cost
Cost to join our Adult Jam Sqaud is $200 for a ten-week term. If you join mid-way through the term, we will calculate the cost on a pro-rata basis.
Is the Adult Jam Sqaud for me?
Perhaps you've been thinking about dusting off that saxophone to relive your good ol' music days from a decade or two ago?
Maybe you've just left school and no longer have access to a regular band but really want to continue playing with others?
Maybe you've only ever sung in the shower but always secretly wanted to join a band?
Whatever your story, this is the place for you! Please don't be shy. We know it can be a little daunting starting in a new music group, whether you've been in one before or not. So long as you can carry a tune, are willing to practice a little bit each week, and can (ideally) read music, you're most welcome; we can accommodate a range of skill levels. If you're not sure, feel free to call us for a chat about what you want to do music-wise and we will try to accommodate you!
Think you might like to join our Adult Jam Sqaud? Great! We can't wait to meet you!
To make sure we can place you in the right group, we ask you to come along for a brief audition and a chat before you join. This usually takes around 20 minutes and helps us work out what level you are at, what kind of music you like and what you want to get out of the ensemble. The audition is very casual, but please come along ready to play (or sing) a song or two that demonstrates your skill level. If you play and sing, that's great!
Why join the
Old Bones ensemble?
Contemporary music, such as rock and pop music, can have a powerful effect on mood and this is often heightened when we play music as opposed to just listening to it. Playing music can be incredibly uplifting and inspiring. When we play songs we connect to, it can remind us that we are not alone in how we feel, help us reinforce our beliefs and remind us of the person we want to be. It can be very rewarding - not to mention, really fun!
As adults with lots of other commitments, we sometimes forget to do the things we love in favour of just doing the things we have to do. Now's your chance to do something you love!

Our music
The songs we learn at NSME depends on what the group members want to play as well as their level of ability. We are open to considering all types of music. We particularly try to incorporate songs that allow our band members to express their experiences or their feelings both through the lyrics and style of the music.
Of course, the nature of contemporary music (particularly rock), means that some songs are not appropriate especially for younger children, and we incorporate this issue into our music choices. We will always choose the clean versions of any songs with swearing or questionable lyrics or avoid these songs altogether depending on the age of the group. If you have any concerns about this, please get in touch.
Below is a snapshot of some of the songs our ensembles enjoy and those that are on our radar!
