Many young people learn an instrument – for a while. Unfortunately for some kids, practicing on their own or playing the same old songs in the school band doesn't always hold its appeal, and they quit. On top of all this, some kids feel too embarrassed to sing or even play their instrument in front of others, so they choose not to.
This is a real shame because creating music, particularly singing and playing songs you love with others, offers so many unique and wonderful benefits. It really does have the power to enrich our lives. It's no wonder that humans have been making music in groups for tens of thousands of years. Our ancestors understood the uplifting power of music, and its ability to connect us with each other and with ourselves.
Here at NSME, we want to help you play and sing music that moves you. Whether you are a singer or play an instrument, we hope that joining one of our ensembles will provide an outlet to express your feelings, have amazing benefits for your mood, open doors to new friendships and give you an opportunity to be part of something bigger.
That's why at NSME we offer a relaxed and supportive environment where our ensemble members can sing or play songs they know and love with their peers without the pressure and formality of many other choirs or ensembles. We work with our ensemble members to find out what kind of music makes them tick and we go from there. We want all our ensemble members to experience the pure joy of producing great-sounding, uplifting music that truly connects with them. We know that when people genuinely love the music they are playing, they'll want to play more! This is the best way to develop a passion for music and nurture musical skills.
About us
Our ensembles
Our goal is to inspire kids and adults alike to love making music, so that they will be genuinely motivated to practice and improve their musical abilities.
We place young people in an ensemble according to their age, experience and musical preferences. Whether it's rock, pop, folk, country, rap, electronic or any other music style in between, we offer them the opportunity to play songs they love with a group of like-minded peers.
We rehearse weekly and work towards at least two performances per year. No matter what instrument your child plays – guitar, piano, drums, violin, saxophone, voice – we can place them in an ensemble they will love!
We personalise the songs we play based on the interests, talents and instruments of our ensemble members so that they experience the pure joy that comes with making great-sounding, uplifting music in a group.

Our vision
We want to help more kids and young people to love playing and learning music by giving them an opportunity to join with other young musicians and play songs they love. Our goal is to give kids the tools to play with like-minded peers, and create uplifting, inspiring music that allows them to connect with their feelings and express their personalities.

Our music
The songs we learn at NSME depends on what the group members want to play as well as their level of ability. We are open to considering all types of music. We particularly try to incorporate songs that allow our band members to express their experiences or their feelings both through the lyrics and style of the music.
Of course, the nature of contemporary music (particularly rock), means that some songs are not appropriate especially for younger children, and we incorporate this issue into our music choices. We will always choose the clean versions of any songs with swearing or questionable lyrics or avoid these songs altogether depending on the age of the group. If you have any concerns about this, please get in touch.
Below is a snapshot of some of the songs our ensembles enjoy and those that are on our radar!
